Reduction in Airfoil Trailing-Edge Noise Using a Pulsed Laser as an Actuator

چکیده
Trailing-edge noise (TE noise) is an aeroacoustic sound radiated from isolated airfoil in the specific ranges of low-speed flow. We used a pulsed laser as actuator to reduce TE without modifying airfoil’s surface. The wind tunnel test was conducted verify capability Nd:YAG actuator. beam focused into air just outside velocity boundary layer on lower side NACA0012 airfoil. experimental result shows that suppressed for certain period after irradiations. then analyzed physical mechanism reduction with actuation by implicit large eddy simulation (ILES), high-fidelity numerical method computational fluid dynamics (CFD). investigations indicate energy deposition changes unstable amplification mode layer, source acoustic feedback loop radiating noise, another does not generate noise. wave attenuation observed once induced fluctuations and consequently generated vortices sweep out flow structure mode. also examined effect irradiation zone’s shape simulations. results show larger zone, which introduces disturbances over wider range span direction, more effective reducing than shorter focusing length same energies.

LES tests on airfoil trailing edge serration
In the present study, a large number of acoustic simulations are carried out for a low noise airfoil with different Trailing Edge Serrations (TES). The Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FWH) acoustic analogy is used for noise prediction at trailing edge. The acoustic solver is running on the platform of our in-house incompressible flow solver EllipSys3D. The flow solution is first obtained from the Lar...
متن کاملAn experimental study of airfoil instability tonal noise with trailing edge serrations
This paper presents an experimental study of the effect of trailing edge serrations on airfoil instability noise. Detailed aeroacoustic measurements are presented of the noise radiated by an NACA-0012 airfoil with trailing edge serrations in a low to moderate speed flow under acoustical free field conditions. The existence of a separated boundary layer near the trailing edge of the airfoil at a...
متن کاملUnsteady Aerodynamics and Trailing-edge Vortex Sheet of An Airfoil
Unsteady flow models of wings and airfoils have been studied to understand the aerodynamic performance of natural flyers and provide improved maneuverability for micro aerial vehicles (MAVs). Vortex methods have been extensively applied to reduce the dimensionality of these aerodynamic models, based on the proper estimation of the distribution and evolution of the vortices in the wake. In such ...
متن کاملUncertainty quantification for the trailing-edge noise of a controlled-diffusion airfoil
Two deterministic incompressible flow solvers are coupled with a non-intrusive stochastic collocation method to propagate several aerodynamic uncertainties encountered in a standard trailing-edge noise experiment of a low-speed Controlled-Diffusion (CD) airfoil to predict the far-field noise. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) are applied to the same restric...
متن کاملDirect Simulation of Trailing-edge Noise Generated by a Controlled Diffusion Airfoil Using a Lattice-boltzmann Method
Broadband noise produced by the trailing-edge of a controlled diffusion (CD) airfoil is directly simulated using a Lattice-Boltzmann method (PowerFlow) which resolves both the aerodynamic and acoustic field around the airfoil. A proper DNS resolution is achieved in the vicinity of the airfoil for quasi-2D slice of the mock-up. Two numerical setups of the anechoic open-jet facility where both ae...
